Okay! SO….drrrum rolllllll…….presenting------>SHUTTER ISLAND!

I can’t say too much about this movie without disclosing the ending and all the twisted teasing of logic that this movie so daringly indulges in…BUT, who cares?! I am probably the last one to see it anyway :|

Starting with the plot, I can’t say I was sitting on the edge of my seat…Come on! Its Martin Scorsese…I had already done my permutation and combinations of all (im)possible endings 15 minutes into the film! Honestly, I found the plot a little run down. I mean…who all had haunting flashbacks of Memento?! Though the plot is stagnating, the fast paced narrative style of the movie is what wins my vote. There were just so many instances that make you doubt the whole foundation of the movie…You just sit back and wait for the entire structure of the film to crumble to nothingness…I mean..Teddy’s dreams of the war…the girl…the story of Rachel…The movie keeps spreading out, till right at the end and then BAM! Like a ‘hydrogen bomb imploding inwards’. I was actually quite eager to see Scorsese fail for once…There was no possible way to link the dreams, the hallucinations, the characters and the supposed reality! The funny thing is, even at the end, 40% of the events remain unlinked (or had flimsy linkages), but the remaining 60% is so well brought down to a single point that it leaves you stunned. I think that’s smart movie making..I mean…directors mostly always try and link all scenes together…but in this case…There were so many lose ends, you could tie any kind of knot you wanted!

What took the award was the brilliant acting…now an average movie watcher like me, only focused on Leo the first time I watched the movie. I might be able to comment on the other actors once and when I have seen the movie again…BUT just Looking at Leo made me feel like he was probably going to die after shooting. If he is human, he probably bled out every iota of brilliance in his veins.

FAVOURITE SCENE

[ He has a fantastic expression on his face after he retorts to the Army General saying ‘if I was to sink my teeth into your eye right now, would you be able to stop me before I blinded you?’ ... Leo says ‘Give it a try’… and walks out looking back like a little angry child who has been provoked! An expression like that is one that doesn’t seem to fit anywhere, but it did, and commendably!]

Okay, now coming to my fav part!

SLANDER AND SLAUGHTER

1. What’s with the over acting by the chicks?…all of them?!! It’s funny at times… :|
2. When Teddy interviews the first patient, he scrawls in his notebook to the point of tearing the paper in one shot. The paper is intact in a later shot.
3. Chuck’s character could be a little stronger, provided he is important in the end, his role seems flimsy to me…the build up isn’t that thrilling….

BUT Leo saves the day!

That’s all…see the movie…its kinda boring to review movies without technical knowledge…hope I learn! :|
